ShelterBox
What can a local Rotary Club do to have direct and immediate effect when disasters occur here in Australia and across the world? If homes were destroyed what would be needed immediately to keep a family safe, undercover and together in such times of great need?
Our funding of a single ShelterBox means a family somewhere in the world will get help when they need it most, and give them time to recover. The box contains a temporary dwelling for ten, with cooking, bedding and other necessary equipment. Funds raised in our local community have enabled us to purchase many of these boxes over the years. Our local community, who contribute through our fundraising, can rightly be proud to be associated with this project.
The ShelterBox was a vision of a Rotarian in England, which came into being in the year 2000. Since then, with the support of many thousands of Rotarians and other people who believe in helping their fellow man over 130,000 ShelterBoxes have been provided. That just proves it only takes one person to have an idea, and if it is good enough, many others will follow.

Since we began in 2000, we have responded to earthquakes, floods, volcanoes, tsunamis, hurricanes, landslides, typhoons and conflict, delivering emergency humanitarian aid to communities in need.
The 2004 Indian Ocean tsunami, the 2010 Haiti earthquake, the Syria crisis, and the biggest storm to ever make landfall – Typhoon Haiyan in the Philippines; we have responded to some of the largest humanitarian crises the modern world has ever known. Alongside this, we have also helped many thousands of people displaced by disasters that are not featured in the media. Simply put, if there are families in need of emergency shelter, we will do everything we can to help them.”

Sponsoring a box costs $1,000, including delivery direct to those who need it. Each box bears its own unique number so as a donor you can track your box all the way to its recipient country via the website.
Highly trained ShelterBox Response Teams distribute boxes on the ground, working closely with local organisations, international aid agencies and Rotary clubs worldwide. Since its inception in 2000, Shelterbox has firmly established itself at the forefront of international disaster relief, providing emergency shelter for the people who need it most on every continent.
