NYSF

The club welcomed NYSF attendee Riley. National Youth Science Forum is a Rotary supported Forum – a program for students thinking of entering a career in science, engineering and technology. The program is held in Canberra or Perth and students must be sponsored by a Rotary Club. In a very competitive interview process students chosen are given the opportunity to meet others across Australia of a like mind, culminating in a network of friends, colleagues and support groups throughout Australia, which will be of value to participants for the whole of their lives. The program includes visits to scientific establishments, universities, and includes debates, public speaking, hands on experience in laboratories, and social events. In addition New Generations Director John Downing introduced three participants who we had sponsored to the RYPEN program.

Riley is introduced to the meeting by PDG John Downing. Riley was sponsored by our daughter club RC of Playford, and he gave an interesting account of his experience whilst in Canberra.

Our club sponsored three students to RYPEN – the Rotary Youth Program of Enrichment. RYPEN aims to provide young people aged 15 to 17 years with the opportunity to develop their leadership potential, and gain experiences in problem solving. The two and a half day program encourages the youth to take control of their future.

Mahommad, Jhani and Lachlan each gave an account of their time at RYPEN, held in April in the Adelaide hills. Lachlan explained that none of them would have been able to stand up and talk in front of people like they were doing tonight without the experience of the weekend.

Annual Golf Day

A glorious day of warm sunshine at Balaklava topped off our fourth annual Golf day in aid of Australian Rotary Health, Mental Health Research.  A hot roast beef and turkey lunch followed the game as golfers lined up for the prizes.  We had wonderful support from sponsors including the Bendigo Bank.

Bicycle Rack

The Rotary Club of Elizabeth commissioned a bike rack for use of some of the elderly citizens who visit the Grenville Community Hub on their bicycles. [Inset (enlarged) is the plaque attached to the window frame recognising the gift from the Rotary Club.]
"Makes a cold seat", says Rotarian Elizabeth, "but its great to see users of the Grenville Hub riding to the venue and they have somewhere to keep their bicycles".  The rack was manufactured locally.
